The repair
You should not be able to tell the car was hit. We put it back to the condition it was in before the loss, with original equipment parts. Not aftermarket. That is what the car was engineered with, and what the warranty was written for.
You drop the car off. We handle the claim with the insurance company, and we fight for your best interest. For most families the car is the second most valuable thing they own, after the house. If it will not drive, we tow it, and the rental is here on the lot.

Book a carAccident damage, from a scraped door to a car that will not drive, repaired so you cannot tell it was hit.
The hit we see most. Cracked, scuffed, or pushed in, fixed or replaced so the bumper looks untouched.
The color is matched to the rest of the car, and the refinish is blended so the new paint does not stand out.
Door dings, parking-lot dents, and hail. When the paint is still good, we pull the dent and leave the paint.
If the crash bent the structure, we straighten it so the car drives and protects the way it was built to.
We write the estimate and handle the claim. You do not have to argue with the insurance company.

A Long Island family
Doug Hassell Sr. came off the fire department and opened this shop in 1963. It has stayed in the family ever since. We raise our children in the same community we serve, and when a car leaves the lot we picture our own grandchildren getting in. We repair it with their safety in mind.
This is not a private equity firm or an insurance company running a shop for the margin. We have repaired cars for generations of the same families, and we live among you. Cathy was a News 12 anchor, a familiar face on the hard days in this community, and now the children have started in the work their grandfather left them. We work for our neighbors and for our own family, multiple generations of Irish Catholic New Yorkers.
There's no hassle at Hassell, because we work for you, not the insurance company.
An Irish American family-run shop since 1963.

Absolutely amazed at the professionalism and quality of the collision repairs that were performed at Hassell Auto Body. Stacy was a lifesaver. All my needs were addressed and advocated better than I could have done by myself. My Tacoma was returned looking like new, even though there were over ten thousand dollars in repairs, and they detailed it. I now know why Hassell was named Best of Long Island.
Doug was amazing from the moment I got in the car accident to the completion of repairing my car and delivering it back to me. He made the whole process seamless. My car looks absolutely brand new. I highly recommend Hassell Auto Body and am grateful for the care they gave to me and my car.
I can assure you that you will be treated honestly, comfortably, and like family. Doug is the kindest, most honest person you will find in this business. I have brought my car here a number of times and referred friends. They made a window repair look brand new, inside and out. I would never go anywhere else.
Hassell is awesome. They handle everything from start to finish and as stress free as possible. My car came back perfect and they also detailed the car. Everyone there is so nice and very knowledgeable. I would recommend them to anyone.
We have been coming here for the past decade. Anytime we have an issue with any of our vehicles, we bring them here. Doug and his staff are incredibly professional, kind, and courteous. We wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Honest, trustworthy, and genuinely friendly. This shop goes above and beyond every time. They explain everything and answer every question, and that honesty has saved me thousands of dollars. No matter how big or small the job is, I will only go to them.
Questions
How to reach the shop, and what New York requires of the insurance company.
It is the New York rule for how an insurance company has to handle your claim. It covers the investigation, what they have to tell you, and how they settle.
See Regulation 64They have to acknowledge your claim and answer you within 15 business days. If the New York Department of Financial Services writes them about it, they have 10 business days to answer the Department.
See the ruleThey have to start the investigation, and send any forms they need, within 15 business days of hearing about the claim. After certain storms, in counties the state names, that start has been 6 business days.
See the ruleIf there is no argument about coverage, they have to offer a fair amount based on what they found. That offer has to stay inside the policy limits.
See the ruleThey have to price the car from a state-approved guide, a dealer quote, or an approved computer database, and list every deduction. The car is a total loss when the repair would cost more than 75 percent of what it was worth before the crash.
See the ruleThey can call for a non-original part only if it matches or beats the original in fit, finish, quality, and performance, and the warranty is at least as good. They cannot take a deduction for wear or betterment on a crash part, such as a hood, fender, door, or bumper.
See the ruleIf they settle a third-party claim of $5,000 or more for you, they have to mail you written notice at the same time they send the payment to your lawyer or representative.
See the ruleIt covers most insurance. It does not cover workers' compensation, credit insurance, title insurance, or ocean marine. Once a lawsuit or arbitration has started, they no longer have to send the 90-day status letters. The rest of the claim rules still apply.
See the ruleOn your own policy, you usually pay your deductible. If the other driver is at fault and their insurance pays for the repair, you do not.
